ഗ്ലൂക്കോസിന്റെ ജലത്തിലുള്ള ഒരു മിശ്രിതമാണ് ഇൻട്രാവെനസ് ഷുഗർ സൊലൂഷൻ (Intravenous sugar solution) അഥവാ ഡക്സ്ട്രോസ് സൊലൂഷൻ [1] ഹൈപ്പോഗ്ലൈസീമിയ അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ശരീരത്തിലെ ജലനഷ്ടം ചികിത്സിക്കാൻ ഇത് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. പനി, ഹൈപ്പർതൈറോയിഡിസം, രക്തത്തിലെ ഉയർന്ന കാൽസ്യം അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ഡയബറ്റിസ് ഇൻസിപിഡസ് എന്നിവയാൽ ഇലക്ട്രോലൈറ്റ് നഷ്ടപ്പെടാതെ ജലനഷ്ടം സംഭവിക്കാം. രക്തത്തിലെ ഉയർന്ന പൊട്ടാസ്യം അളവ് (ഹൈപ്പർകലേമിയ), ഡയബറ്റിക് കീറ്റോഅസിഡോസിസ് എന്നിവയുടെ ചികിൽസയുടെ ഭാഗമായും ഇത് ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. ഡ്രിപ്പ് ആയിട്ടാണ് ഇത് നൽകുന്നത്. സിരയുടെ പ്രകോപനം, ഹൈപ്പർഗ്ലൈസീമിയ, നീർവീക്കം എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടാം. [2] അമിതമായ ഉപയോഗം രക്തത്തിലെ സോഡിയംഅളവ് വ്യതിയാനം ഇലക്ട്രോലൈറ്റ് അസംതുലനം എന്നിവ ഉണ്ടാക്കാം. മരുന്നുകളുടെ ക്രിസ്റ്റലോയിഡ് കുടുംബത്തിലാണ് ഇൻട്രാവെനസ് ഷുഗർ സൊലൂഷൻ പെടുന്നത്.[3] 5%, 10%, 50% ഡെക്‌ട്രോസ് എന്നിവയുൾപ്പെടെ വിവിധ അനുപാതത്തിലാണ് അവ ലഭ്യമാവുന്നത്. നിർജ്ജലീകരണം വഴിയും തുടർന്നുള്ള നെക്രോസിസ് വഴിയും കോശമരണത്തിന് കാരണമാകുമെന്നതിനാൽ സാന്ദ്രീകൃത ഡെക്‌ട്രോസ് ലായനികൾ അനാവശ്യമായി നൽകരുത്.
മെഡിക്കൽ ഉപയോഗത്തിനുള്ള ഡെക്‌ട്രോസ് ലായനികൾ 1920 കളിലും 1930 കളിലും ലഭ്യമായി. [4] [5] ഇവ, ലോകാരോഗ്യ സംഘടനയുടെ അവശ്യ മരുന്നുകളുടെ പട്ടികയിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നു. [6]
