ആന്റൺ പാവ്ലോവിച്ച് ചെഖോവ് (Russian: Анто́н Па́влович Че́хов, IPA: [ʌnˈton ˈpavləvʲɪtɕ ˈtɕɛxəf]) ഒരു റഷ്യൻ ചെറുകഥാകൃത്തും നാടകകൃത്തുമായിരുന്നു. തെക്കേ റഷ്യയിലെ റ്റാഗൻ‌റോഗ് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്ത് 29 ജനുവരി [O.S. ജനുവരി 17] 1860-നു ജനിച്ചു. ക്ഷയരോഗം ബാധിച്ച് ജർമ്മനിയിലെ ബാദന്വീലർ എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തെ ഹെൽത്ത്-സ്പായിൽ വെച്ച് 15 ജൂലൈ [O.S. ജൂലൈ 2] 1904-നു മരിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ചുരുങ്ങിയ കാലത്തെ നാടകരചനാ ജീവിതം നാല് ക്ലാസിക്കുകൾ പ്രദാനം ചെയ്തു. ചെഖോവിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും നല്ല ചെറുകഥകളെ ലോകം മുഴുവൻ എഴുത്തുകാരും നിരൂപകരും ആദരവോടെ കാണുന്നു.[1][2] ചെഖോവ് ത്ന്റെ സാഹിത്യജീവിത കാലം മുഴുവൻ ഒരു ഡോക്ടർ ആയി രോഗികളെ ചികിത്സിച്ചു. അദ്ദേഹം ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു: "വൈദ്യശാസ്ത്രം എന്റെ നിയമപരമായ ഭാര്യ ആണ്. സാഹിത്യം എന്റെ വെപ്പാട്ടിയും".[3]

ദ് സീഗൾ എന്ന നാടകത്തിനു ലഭിച്ച ശോചനീയമായ വരവേൽപ്പിനെ തുടർന്ന് ചെഖോവ് നാടകരചന 1896-ൽ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ചതാണ്. എന്നാൽ കോൺസ്റ്റന്റിൻ സ്റ്റാനിസ്ലാവ്സ്കിയുടെ മോസ്കോ ആർട്ട് തിയ്യെറ്റർ ഈ നാടകം പുനരവതരിപ്പിച്ചതോടെ നിരൂപക പ്രശംസ നേടി. അങ്കിൾ വാന്യ എന്ന നാടകവും ചെഖോവിന്റെ അവസാനത്തെ രണ്ടു നാടകങ്ങളായ ദ് ത്രീ സിസ്റ്റേഴ്സ്, ദ് ചെറി ഓർച്ചാർഡ് എന്നിവയും ഈ നാടക ട്രൂപ്പ് അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു. ഈ നാലു നാടകങ്ങളും അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്ന അഭിനേതാക്കൾക്കും കാണികൾക്കും ഒരു പ്രത്യേക വെല്ലുവിളിയാണ്.[4] കാരണം സാധാ‍രണ നാടകങ്ങളെ അപേക്ഷിച്ച് ചെഖോവ് ഒരു ഭാവങ്ങളുടെ ഒരു നാടകവേദിയും അക്ഷരങ്ങളിൽ മുങ്ങിയ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ പ്രതീതിയും ജനിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.[5] എല്ലാവരും ഈ വെല്ലുവിളിയെ അംഗീകരിച്ചില്ല: ലിയോ ടോൾസ്റ്റോയ് ചെഖോവിനോട് ഇങ്ങനെ പറഞ്ഞു എന്ന് വിശ്വസിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു, "എനിക്ക് ഷേക്സ്പിയറിനെ അംഗീകരിക്കാൻ പറ്റുന്നില്ല. പക്ഷേ നിങ്ങളുടെ നാടകങ്ങൾ അതിലും വളരെ മോശമാണ്".[6][7]

എങ്കിലും ടോൾസ്റ്റോയ് ചെഖോവിന്റെ ചെറുകഥകളെ ആ‍സ്വദിച്ചു.[8] ചെഖോവ് ആദ്യകാലത്ത് പണത്തിനുവേണ്ടി മാത്രമായിരുന്നു ചെറുകഥകൾ എഴുതിയത്. എങ്കിലും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കലാപരമായ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ വർദ്ധിച്ചപ്പോൾ ആധുനിക ചെറുകഥയുടെ പരിണാമത്തെ തന്നെ സ്വാധീനിച്ച സൃഷ്ടിപരമായ പരീക്ഷണങ്ങൾ ചെഖോവ് തന്റെ കഥകളിൽ നടത്തി.[9][10][11] വിർജിനിയ വുൾഫ്, ജെയിംസ് ജോയ്സ്, ആധുനികതയുടെ വക്താക്കൾ (മോഡേണിസ്റ്റ്സ്) തുടങ്ങിയവർ ഉപയോഗിച്ച ബോധധാര( stream-of-consciousness) ശൈലി രൂപപ്പെടുത്തിയത് ചെഖോവ് ആയിരുന്നു. യാഥാസ്ഥിതിക കഥകളിലുള്ള സന്മാർഗ്ഗികതയുടെ അന്തിമ വിജയം എന്ന ആശയത്തെ തന്റെ കഥകളിൽ ചെഖോവ് നിരാകരിച്ചു.[12][13] ഇത് വായനക്കാരിൽ ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുകൾക്ക് ചെഖോവ് ഒരിക്കലും ക്ഷമപറഞ്ഞില്ല. ചെഖോവിന്റെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിൽ ഒരു കലാകാരന്റെ ഭാഗം ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ചോദിക്കുക എന്നതാണ്. അവയ്ക്ക് ഉത്തരം നൽകുക എന്നതല്ല.[14]

മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്രങ്ങൾ[തിരുത്തുക]

ആന്റൻ ചെഖോവിന്റെ ദി ബെറ്റ് എന്ന നാടകത്തെ ആസ്പദമാക്കിയുള്ള മലയാള ചലച്ചിത്രമാണ് പന്തയം. 2013 ൽ ചിത്രീകരണം തുടങ്ങിയ പന്തയത്തിൽ നെടുമുടി വേണുവാണ് ആന്റൻ ചെഖോവിന്റെ വേഷമിടുന്നത്. [15] ജയരാജിന്റെ സംവിധാനത്തിൽ പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഒറ്റാൽ എന്ന ചലച്ചിത്രം ചെഖോവിന്റെ 'വാങ്ക' എന്ന ചെറുകഥയെ ആസ്പദിച്ചുള്ളതണ്.
