ഇന്ത്യയിലെ 29 സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിൽ ഒരു സംസ്ഥാനമാണ് ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശ്. 1956 നവംബർ 1നു അന്നു നിലവിലുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഹൈദരാബാദ്, ആന്ധ്രാ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ തെലുങ്ക് ഭാഷ സംസാരിക്കുന്ന പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ കൂട്ടിച്ചേർത്താണ് ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശ് സംസ്ഥാനം രൂപവത്കരിച്ചത്.[1] 2014 ജൂൺ 2 ആം തീയതി, 23 ജില്ലകളുണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഈ സംസ്ഥാനം തെലുങ്കാന, ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശ് എന്നിങ്ങനെ രണ്ടു സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളായി മാറി. 13 ജില്ലകളാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശിലുള്ളത്

ആന്ധ്രാപ്രദേശിനെ റായലസീമ, കോസ്റ്റൽ ആന്ധ്രാ എന്നിങ്ങനെ രണ്ടായി വിഭജിക്കാം.

  • റായലസീമയിൽ ഉൾപെടുന്നത് കുർനൂൽ, ചിറ്റൂർ, കടപ്പ, അനന്തപ്പൂർ എന്നീ നാല് ജില്ലകളാണ്.
  • കോസ്റ്റൽ ആന്ധ്രായിൽ ഉൾപെടുന്നത് ഈസ്റ്റ് ഗോദാവരി, വെസ്റ്റ് ഗോദാവരി, ഗുണ്ടൂർ, കൃഷ്ണ, പ്രകാശം, നെല്ലൂർ, ശ്രീകാകുളം, വിശാഖപട്ടണം, വിജയനഗരം എന്നീ ഒമ്പതു ജില്ലകളാണ്.
