Russian has co-official status and widespread use by government and other institutions. Anulled by the Georgian Soviet immediately after. De facto currency, several commemorative coins in Abkhazian own currency, Abkhazian apsar (апсар) were issued.

കരിങ്കടലിന്റെ കിഴക്കു വടക്കു ഭാഗത്ത് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്ന തർക്ക പ്രദേശമാണ് അബ്ഖാസിയ. 1991ൽ അബ്ഖാസിയ ജോർജിയയിൽ നിന്ന് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. റഷ്യ, നിക്കരാഗ്വ തുടങ്ങിയ രാജ്യങ്ങൾ അബ്ഖാസിയയെ അംഗീകരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്.
