ഭാരതീയ കരസേനയിലെ ഏറ്റവും കരുത്തുറ്റ സായുധ സൈനിക വിഭാഗങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് സിഖ് റെജിമെന്റ്. നാമം സൂചിപ്പിയ്ക്കുന്നതു പോലെ സിഖ് സമുദായത്തിൽ നിന്നാണ് പ്രധാനമായും ഈ റെജിമെന്റിലേയ്ക്ക് സൈനികരെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്നത്.

ചരിത്രം

ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് ഇന്ത്യയിലേയും സ്വതന്ത്ര ഭാരതത്തിലേയും ഏറ്റവും ഉത്കൃഷ്ട സൈനിക വിഭാഗമായി ഇതിനെ കരുതി പോരുന്നുണ്ട്.സിഖ് നിയന്ത്രണത്തിലുള്ള പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ കൈക്കലാക്കുന്നതിനു 1845-1846 കാലഘട്ടത്തിൽ ബ്രിട്ടീഷുകാർക്ക് ഈ റെജിമെന്റുമായി പൊരുതേണ്ടി വന്നിരുന്നു. സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യത്തിനു മുൻപും പിൻപും ഒട്ടേറെ സൈനിക നീക്കങ്ങളിൽ സിഖ് റെജിമെന്റ് നിർണ്ണായക ശക്തിയായിരുന്നു.

ഒന്നും രണ്ടും ലോകയുദ്ധങ്ങൾ കൂടാതെ ഇന്ത്യാ -പാകിസ്താൻ യുദ്ധങ്ങൾ, കാർഗിൽ കൂടാതെ മറ്റനേകം യുദ്ധ നീക്കങ്ങളിലും സിഖ് റെജിമെന്റ് നിർണ്ണായക ചുമതല വഹിച്ചു.
