ഓസ്ട്രിയൻ ദേശീയടീമിൽ അംഗമായിരുന്ന സിൻഡ്ലർ 1934 ലെ ലോകഫുട്ബോൾ കപ്പിൽ ആസ്ട്രിയയെ നയിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. മധ്യ മുന്നേറ്റ നിരയിൽ കളിച്ചിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ഡ്രിബ്ലിങ്ങ് പാടവം കൊണ്ടും, ശാരീരിക പ്രത്യേകതകൾ കൊണ്ടും പേപ്പർ മാൻ എന്നു വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു.[2][3]
1999ൽ IIFFHS സിൻഡ്ലറെ ഇരുപതാം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിലെ ഏറ്റവും മികച്ച ഓസ്ട്രിയൻ ഫുട്ബോൾ കളിക്കാരനായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുത്തിരുന്നു.[4] അതിനും ഒരു കൊല്ലം മുൻപുമാത്രമായിരുന്നു ഓസ്റ്റ്രിയയുടെ നൂറ്റാണ്ടിന്റെ കായികതാരം എന്ന ബഹുമതി അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തേടിയെത്തിയത്.[5]
ഹിറ്റ്ലർ ആസ്ട്രിയ കീഴടക്കിയതിനെത്തുടർന്ന് ജർമ്മനിയ്ക്കുവേണ്ടി കളിയ്ക്കുന്നതിൽ വിമുഖത കാണിച്ചിരുന്നസിൻഡ്ലറെയും, കൂട്ടുകാരി കാമിലയെയും ദുരൂഹസാഹചര്യത്തിൽ വിയന്നയിലുള്ള വസതിയിൽ 1939 ജനുവരി 23 നു കാർബൺ മോണോക്സൈഡ് ശ്വസിച്ചു മരണപ്പെട്ടനിലയിൽ കണ്ടെത്തുകയാണുണ്ടായത്.
