നാംകോ പുറത്തിറക്കിയ ഒരു ആര്ക്കേഡ് കളിയാണ് പാക്-മാന്. 1980 മെയ് 22-ന് ജപ്പാനിലാണ് ഇതിന്റെ ആദ്യ പതിപ്പ് പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയത്.[1][2] പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ കാലം മുതല് ഇന്നു വരെ യുണൈറ്റഡ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ്സില് വന് പ്രചാരമാണ് ഈ കളിക്ക് ഉള്ളത്. ആര്ക്കേഡ് കളികളിലെ ക്ലാസിക്കുകളിലൊന്നായി ഇത് പൊതുവെ കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. ആദ്യ പതിപ്പും അനുബന്ധങ്ങളും പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ശേഷം ഒരു സാമൂഹ്യ പ്രതിഭാസമായി മാറിയ ഇതുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് ഒരു അനിമേറ്റഡ് ടെലിവിഷന് പരമ്പരയും പാട്ടുകളും പുറത്തിറങ്ങി.[4]
പാക്-മാന് പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ കാലത്ത്, വടക്കേ അമേരിക്കയിലെ ആര്ക്കേഡ് വീഡിയോ ഗെയിമുകളില് ഭൂരിഭാഗവും സ്പേസ് ഇന്വേഡേര്സ്, ഡിഫന്ഡര്, ആസ്ട്രോയ്ഡ്സ് തുടങ്ങിയ ബഹിരാകാശ ഷൂട്ടര് കളികളും ഒരു ചെറുവിഭാഗം കായിക ആര്ക്കേഡ് കളികളുമായിരുന്നു. ഇവയില് നിന്നും വ്യസ്ത്യസ്ഥമായ ഒരു ആര്ക്കേഡ് കളി വിഭാഗത്തിന് തുടക്കം കുറിക്കുന്നതില് പാക്-മാന് വിജയിച്ചു. [5]വീഡിയോ ഗെയിം ചരിത്രത്തിലെ ഒരു പ്രധാന നാഴികക്കല്ലായും എക്കാല്ലഥെയും ഏറ്റവും പ്രശസ്തമായ വീഡിയോ ഗെയിമുകളിലൊന്നായും പാക്-മാന് കണക്കാക്കപ്പെടുന്നു.[6]
