പലസ്തീൻ
മെഡിറ്ററേനിയൻ കടലിനും ജോർദാൻ നദിക്കുമിടയിലുള്ള പ്രദേശത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിക്കാൻ റോമൻ കാലഘട്ടം മുതൽ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു വരുന്ന പേരാണ് പലസ്തീൻ.[1] വിശാലാർത്ഥത്തിൽ, ഒരു ഭൂമിശാസ്ത്ര സംജ്ഞയെന്ന നിലയിൽ, ഇന്നത്തെ ഇസ്രായേൽ, പലസ്തീനിയൻ പ്രദേശങ്ങൾ, ജോർദാൻ, ലെബനൻ, സിറിയ എന്നിവയുടെ ഭാഗങ്ങൾ, എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നതാണ് പലസ്തീൻ.[1][2] സങ്കുചിതമായ അർത്ഥത്തിൽ, ജോർദാൻ നദിയുടെ പടിഞ്ഞാറുള്ള മുൻ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് അധികാര പലസ്തീന്റെ അതിർത്തിക്കുള്ളിലുള്ള പ്രദേശത്തെയാണ് ഈ പേര് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്.
ഫലസ്തീനിയൻ നാഷണൽ അഥോറിറ്റിയാൽ പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കപ്പെട്ടതും 100-ലധികം രാജ്യങ്ങൾ അംഗീകരിച്ചതുമായ ഫലസ്തീൻ രാജ്യത്തെയും (State of Palestine) ഈ പേരുകൊണ്ട് വിവക്ഷിക്കാം.[3] ഇസ്രായേൽ-പലസ്തീൻ സംഘർഷങ്ങളുടെ പശ്ചാത്തലത്തിൽ ഫലസ്തീൻ എന്ന പേരിന്റെ ഉപയോഗം വളരെ വിവാദപരമായ ഒന്നാണ്.[4]
