ഹിന്ദു വിശ്വാസമനുസരിച്ച് സപ്തർഷികളിൽ ഒരാളായ വസിഷ്ഠ മഹർഷിയുടെ കൈവശമുള്ള പശുവാണ് കാമധേനു.ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നതെന്തും നൽകുന്ന ദിവ്യശക്തിയുള്ള പശുവാണിത്.പല അസുരന്മാരും ഇതിനെ സ്വന്തമാക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി.ഇതിന്റെ കുട്ടിയാണ് നന്ദിനിയെന്ന പശു.
