സോറാപോഡ് വിഭാഗത്തിൽ പെട്ട ഒരു ദിനോസറാണ് ആസ്ട്രോഡോൺ. ഇവയ്ക്ക് ബ്രാക്കിയോസോറസുമായി അടുത്ത ബന്ധമുണ്ട്. 110 ദശലക്ഷം വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുൻപ് തുടക ക്രിറ്റേഷ്യസ് കാലത്ത് ആണ് ഇവ ജീവിച്ചിരുന്നത്.

ആസ്ട്രോഡോൺ എന്ന പേരിന്റെ അർഥം നക്ഷത്രപ്പല്ല് എന്നാണ് . ഇവയുടെ പല്ലിന്റെ സൂക്ഷ്മപരിശോധനയിൽ ഇവയുടെ പൾപ്പ് ക്യാവിറ്റിയിൽ കണ്ട നക്ഷത്രസമാനമായ ആകൃതിയിൽ നിന്നാണ് ഇവയുടെ പേര് വന്നത്.
ശരീര ഘടന [തിരുത്തുക]
ആസ്ട്രോഡോണിന് 15 - 18 മീറ്റർ വരെ (50 - 60 അടി) നീളമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. 9 മീറ്റർ (30 അടി) വരെ ഉയരം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഇവയുടെ ശരീരഭാരം ഏകദേശം 20 ടൺ വരുമെന്നാണ് കണക്കാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
