തെക്കെ അമേരിക്കയിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നതും വംശനാശം സംഭവിച്ച ജീവിയുമാണ് അന്റാർട്ടിക്കൻ ചെന്നായ അഥവാ വാറ. 1689 ൽ റിച്ചാര്ഡ് സിംപ്സൺ എന്നയാളാണ് വാറയെ ആദ്യമായി ശാസ്ത്രലോകത്തിന് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്.
